The Islanders are among the best in the league with their commitment to children's causes and on Friday evening two of them were recognized for their efforts. Bill and Kara Guerin were honored by the Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City for their ongoing commitment to enrich every community that they have called home.

"The Children's Museum is one of the real special places on Long Island," said Bill Guerin. "The kids love it and the parents love having a place where their children can have fun and learn at the same time. Throughout the course of my NHL career, myself and Kara have always looked for the children's museum in our area to bring our kids.

The Long Island community has welcomed my family since arriving here last summer.  We are proud to call Long Island our home."

The cocktail gala at the museum also included Mike Bossy, Mike Sillinger, Jon Sim and Dan Lacroix, who were proud to support the Museum.

"We are very happy that we were able to attend the LICM event tonight and show support not only for our teammate but to show support for the LICM," said Sillinger.

Throughout the season, Bill Guerin has spearheaded and taken part in a number of community outreach programs, including RexCorp Islanders Inspire, the holiday hospital toy shopping at Toys R Us, a food drive with Long Island Cares and the March of Dimes.

Group leaders of organizations that were given Islanders Inspire tickets throughout the course of the season were also in attendance to show their appreciation for the good will of the Guerins and many others who have donated to the program.

"I want to thank the Islanders for inviting us to attend this great event," said Dora Ziongas of Cancer Care for Kids. "Bill Guerin donated tickets to our organization throughout the season so we were able to bring some of our children who are affected with cancer down to a game. It was nice to be able to thank Bill and Kara personally."

The Children's Museum is committed to providing long-term and sustained access to the museum and its programming to children and families not typically served by educational and cultural institutions or who cannot readily afford visits.

Among the evening's highlights was an auction to benefit the LICM.

"We are honored to be a part of this special evening," said Kara Guerin. "All money raised tonight will go to a great cause at expanding the museums many programs for children to enjoy for years to come."
