Steve Webb is set to bike 650 miles to raise funds for his W20 Foundation and Alzheimer's Research

As most of us get into our cars for work or onto the bus for school, one former Islander will set out on a 10-day bike ride starting on Saturday, Sept. 12 and lasting to Monday, Sept. 21. Steve Webb, the founder of the W20 Foundation, will begin a bike ride from Peterborough, Ontario Canada to Uniondale, NY, which encompasses 650 miles of terrain.
Webb’s overall goal for the bike ride is to raise money and awareness for young Long Island youth hockey players and give them the ability to receive a partial scholarship towards either a specialized high school program and/or an undergraduate course of study at an accredited college or university. He has also teamed up with the Baycrest Foundation, which is an Alzheimer’s Care and Research Hospital in Toronto, ON. A portion of the funds raised will go back to the Baycrest Foundation in an effort to help fund their efforts towards Alzheimer’s and Dementia research.
“My goal for this ride is to provide more opportunities for Long Island Youth Hockey players,” Webb said. “My family as well as many other’s has also been affected by the aging disease of Alzheimer’s and Dementia so we wanted to bring awareness to supporting both foundations. By teaming up with the Baycrest Foundation, we will give people outside of the Long Island demographics the opportunity to support the ride.”
The former Islander fan favorite has set his goal to ride 65 miles per day and throughout the Canadian portion of the ride will have a companion in retired NHL veteran, Rob Zamuner.
Webb has set the route as follows:
• Peterborough, ON through Toronto, ON and into Niagara Falls
• Cross the border and continue through Buffalo, NY
• Follow Route 5 and 20 across upstate New York and into Albany
• Continue down Route 9W following the Hudson River across to Long Island and finishing at Eisenhower Park
