The Fourth Annual Islanders Business Club Career Fair is back at the Nassau Coliseum.  Last year over 300 people attended the event, and this year looks to be even better. The career fair is sure to be a great event for those both seeking jobs after a temporary work respite or for people simply looking for an upgrade in their careers. Representatives from diverse industries and professions will be on hand, including sales and marketing, advertising, public relations and more. Employers from professional sports teams and Islanders Business Club members are scheduled to attend as well.

With the unemployment rate hovering around 10% nationally and only slightly lower here on Long Island, the career fair is sure to help many people in need of employment in the local community.

The Nassau Coliseum Career Fair has provided employers a great outlet to advertise positions that are still in need, and at an economic time like this, there definitely won’t be a shortage of potential employees in attendance.  The career fair has helped people find their dream jobs in many types of industries, and even the New York Islanders have utilized the career fair to its advantage. Just last year two new employees were hired from the hundreds in attendance to help further the Islanders group sales efforts.

Brian Aiello, a Group Sales Representative for the Islanders, was one of the organization’s hires from the fair and prior to the 2009 event, he was working at an investment group in Manhattan.

“I wanted to pursue a career that I was passionate about, and I always wanted to work in sports,” Aiello said.  “You have to be diligent at the career fair.  If you find a position that you’re interested in, do not be afraid to pursue it aggressively.”

After visiting the career fair he was called in for several interviews with the Islanders as well as with multiple financial groups before eventually landing the job that he holds today.

Tom Giulietti, another member of the Groups Sales Department, was in attendance at last year’s career fair as well after finishing up with a seasonal job he had with Madison Square Garden. Growing up in Long Island he feels fortunate to work for a professional team in the area. Giulietti came to the career fair with an open mind, and says that this year’s candidates need to do the same. “You need to just get your foot in the door. Even though times might be tough it might be the right move to take an internship over a part time job if it provides you with better experience.”

This year’s event will take place in the Expo Hall of the Nassau Coliseum on March 25th from 4-7 p.m. Admission is $25 per person, which will include access to a special guest speaker and a $40 game ticket to the Islanders versus the Calgary Flames, taking place that night at 7 p.m.
