GERVAIS ATTENDS HOCKEY ACADEMY
New York Islanders’ defenseman Bruno Gervais joined the Islanders Hockey Academy at The Rinx in Hauppauge.  The Hockey Academy provides entry-level hockey players, ages 6-14, the opportunity to play ice hockey at no cost. Gervais took the time to skate with the kids and help them in various drills like skating through the cones and taking shots on net.

Kyle Goodey, age 7, from Freeport said it was “cool” to have an NHL Player on the ice teaching them hockey.  The Islanders know hockey comes along with the large time and money commitment so they are doing their best in making a children’s dreams possible.

Nicholas Schiano, also 7 ears old, participated in his second Islanders Hockey Academy and loved that he got to meet Gervais. Nicholas’ mother Kim was touched that Gervais took the time out of his schedule to inspire her son and play with the kids.

“I am absolutely thrilled that the Islanders do this,” she said. “They are very community oriented and we support them. My son saw one Islander game and knew he wanted to play hockey. The Islanders Hockey Academy made his dream come true.”

“It’s always great to see the kids and the smiles on their face,” Gervais said. “I said to one of the coaches, it wasn’t too long ago that I was out there doing those drills and it’s always fun to come back and do it again.” Gervais was all smiles after the practice and for kids looking to play in the NHL one day, he said, “Keep having fun, get out there and play, and enjoy your teammates.”

It was a great night for all and created lasting memories for many children. The Islanders Hockey Academy provides ice time and equipment for children beginning to play hockey. As a fundraiser, children who participate are asked to sell 25 tickets to select games. The program prides itself on teaching children true sportsmanship and helping them achieve their dreams.
