Come watch as New York Islanders prospects Matt Martin, Travis Hamonic and the Islanders 2010 NHL Entry Draft first-round pick Nino Niederreiter skate in the Orange vs. Blue 2010 Scrimmage & Skills Competition.
With the fifth overall draft pick, the Islanders drafted Nino Niederreiter, one of the top prospects for the 2010-11 season. Nino will suit up for the first time in a New York Islanders jersey as he takes the ice for the Mini Camp scrimmage and skills competition.
In the 2009-10 season, Niederreiter led the Winterhawks in goals and ranked second among WHL rookies. He also scored six game-winning goals, which tied him for the league lead among rookies. He was selected to the WHL Western Conference Second All-Star team. On the international stage, Niederreiter represented Switzerland at the 2010 World Junior Championship, where he led the team with 10 points in seven games (6 goals, 4 assists).  He was named to the tournament all-star team.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Matt Martin played in 76 games during the 2009-10 season for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He tallied 12-19=31 totals and made his mark as a tough guy after earning 113 penalty minutes. In five playoff games for the Sound Tigers, he scored one goal and two assists for three points.
Martin made his NHL debut on February 9, 2010 versus the Nashville Predators where he tallied two assists and two penalty minutes. Martin began to make his mark in the NHL by earning 26 penalty minutes in five games for the Islanders last season.
Travis Hamonic, drafted in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, won gold with the Canadien Under-18 World Championship team in 2008. In seven games, he earned 2 assists and 14 penalty minutes, ending the tournament with a plus-4 rating.
Hamonic also participated in the 2007 Canada Winter Games, where he helped Team Manitoba win a Silver Medal. Last season, Hamonic was traded by the Moose Jaw Warriors to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL. In the 2009-10 season, he played a total of 41 games for 11 goals, 33 assists and 65 penalty minutes. In the WHL playoffs last season, Hamonic played in 15 games for the Wheat Kings, tallying 4 goals, 7 assists and 23 penalty minutes.
Held during the week of Mini Camp, the scrimmage will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 10 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Immediately following the Blue and Orange scrimmage, fans will see the team¹s future stars compete in a skills competition which will include hardest shot, accuracy and fastest skater.

Coliseum doors will open at 6 p.m. with warm-ups beginning at 6:30 p.m. The scrimmage will start at 7 p.m., followed by the skills competition. See which of the organization¹s up-and-coming prospects has the hardest shot or has the best shootout move.
