The roster for the 2010 installment of Islanders Mini Camp is set. Included among the 40 players attending the week-long camp are Islanders prospects Matt Martin, Nino Niederreiter and Brock Nelson. There are 12 camp invitees from local towns on Long Island such as East Meadow, Kings Park and Jericho. The remaining attendees include several non-drafted players who are playing either college or junior hockey.
Fans can get their glimpse of these future Islanders at the Orange and Blue Scrimmage and Skills Competition on July 10th at Nassau Coliseum.
Goalies
Mikko KoskinenBorn: July 18, 1988
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 187 lbs
Hometown: Vantaa, Finland
Catches: Left
Koskinen split time with both the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) and the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL) last season. In six rehab starts, he posted a .924 save percentage. Koskinen also earned his first AHL Calder Cup Playoffs victory for the Sound Tigers in their first round series against the Hershey Bears.

Anders Nilsson represented Sweden at the 2010 World Junior Championships, where he assisted Team Sweden in winning the bronze medal. In the 2008-09 season, Nilsson led the Swedish Junior SuperElit in GAA (2.05) and save percentage (.927).

Played in 33 games for the Capital District Selects and posted a 7-21-2 and had a 4.26 and a .920 save percentage.

Cody played his freshman year last season for Clarkson University. Prior to NCAA play, Cody played for the OJHL Kingston Voyageurs in the 2008-09 season. He finished with a 2.90 GAA and a .899 save percentage.

Agosta is a camp invite that will make his debut in the NCAA with the University of New Hampshire for the 2010-2011 season. He played 36 games for Indiana Ice (USHL), recording 16 goals before committing to UNH.
Tony DeHart Born: 3/20/90

DeHart led all Oshawa Generals defensemen in scoring, tallying 50 points (10 goals, 40 assists) in 68 games in the 2009-10 season. He was signed to an Amateur Tryout Agreement with the Springfield Falcons (AHL) on March 16, 2010 and played in two games with Edmonton’s former affiliate.

Donovan was selected in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Islanders with the 96th overall selection. As a freshman at the University of Denver in 2009-10, Donovan scored 21 points (7 goals, 14 assists) in 36 games. He was named an Inside College Hockey Freshman All-American, All-College Hockey News Rookie Team Member, and an All-WCHA Rookie Team Honoree for Denver. At the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championships, Donovan led all rookie defensemen with seven goals, and helped team USA win gold.

Hamonic was one of the Islanders' second-round draft selections in the 2008 Draft. He split the 2009-10 season between the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Brandon Wheat Kings, totaling 44 points (11 goals, 33 assists) in 41 games. For Moose Jaw in the 2008-09 season, he ranked first among defensemen in goals, assists, and points and earned the Warriors Scholastic Player of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year awards.

As a freshman at Michigan State, Josepher scored 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 35 games. In the 2008-09 season with the Penticton Vees, he led all defensemen in scoring with 14 goals, and ranked second on the team in assists, tallying 38. Josepher was named to the BCHL all-star game in 2008.

After being drafted in the fifth round, Klementyev played his first career NHL game with the Islanders against the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 27, 2010. Before making his debut with the Islanders, Klementyev played 28 games for their affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, scoring a goal and two assists for three points.

Mangene played for the University of Maine in the NCAA tallying 11 points. Before making his NCAA debut, Mangene recorded 37 points for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs and was named an EJHL All-Star.
Michael Marcou Born: 9/19/89

Marcou played two seasons at UMass-Amherst, tallying 7 goals and 3 assists for 10 points as a sophomore. He played two seasons for the Waterloo Black Hawks before the NCAA, helping the team to win the Anderson Cup in 2007 and reach the Clark Cup finals in both the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.

Markowitz played three seasons for Dartmouth, tallying 11 points. Before the NCAA, he led defensemen in scoring for the Bobcats in 2003-04 and was named MVP.

Ness played in every game for University of Minnesota in both the past two season, ranking second among the team’s defensemen in scoring both seasons. Posted a goal and an assist in the 3-2 title game win over Northeastern in the 2009 Dodge Holiday Classic, Ness earned tournament MVP honors and the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week award.

Rosen played nine games for Boston University as a freshman. Before debuting in the NCAA, Rosen led the EJHL defensemen in scoring with the South Shore Kings, recording 10 goals in the 2008-09 season. He was named to the 2009 EJHL All-Star game.

Sims has played three seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was the only Buckeye defenseman to play in all 42 games during the 2008-09 season, scoring an NCAA career-best of 24 points. He consistently displayed on ice skills as well as academic excellence, winning the Ohio State Scholar-Athlete as well as the CCHA Defenseman of the Week as a sophomore.

In the 2009-10 playoffs, Cizikas scored 14 points in 16 games for the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. Finishing the regular season with a career high of 62 points, he also posted a career high in goals (25) and assists (37) that same year. 2009-10 marked Cizikas’ third season with Mississauga, where he was drafted in the 1st round of the OHL draft.

Jason Clark completed his senior year at Shattuck-St. Mary’s High School in his native state of Minnesota last season. He posted 46 points in 54 games in the 2009-10 season. Clark was selected by the Islanders in the third round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Brian Day – Right WingBorn: April 8, 1988

As a junior, Day led Colgate University in goals with 21 and ranked third on the team in overall scoring with 36 points. He also scored a team-high seven power play goals and finished a team-best +14. He was selected by the Islanders in the sixth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Joey Diamond – CenterBorn: June 16, 1989

A 2010 camp invite, Diamond scored 12 points (9 goals, 3 assists) last season as a freshman at the University of Maine. The Long Island native was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team and was featured on ESPN’s Top Plays for his game-tying goal in the semifinals against Boston University.
Justin DiBenedetto – Left WingBorn: August 25, 1988,

As a member of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, DiBenedetto recorded 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) in 67 games last year in his first full professional season. During his time in juniors with the Sarnia Sting, DiBenedtto was selected to the 2008-09 OHL All-Star game and scored a hat trick.
Robin Figren – Left WingBorn: March 7, 1988

In the 2009-10 season, Figren contributed seven points in the first full season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. After coming off wrist surgery in February 2008, Figren bounced back to play in 49 games for the Djurgardens IF Stockholm in the Swedish Elite League, scoring nine points, while seeing time with the NY Islanders’ AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Kirill Kabanov – Left WingBorn: July 16, 1992

The Islanders managed to select Kabanov with the fifth pick of the third round. As a member of the Moncton Wildcats in 2009-10, Kabanov recorded 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) in 22 games. His international resume includes a bronze medal with Team Russia at the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships, where Kabanov scored 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) in seven games.

Marcinko recorded six points (4 goals, 2 assists) in 54 last season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He was selected by the Islanders in the fourth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

In 2009-10, his first professional season, Martin recorded 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and scored two points during a five-game stint with the Islanders. He was the Islanders’ fifth round draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Nelson was drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He committed to the University of North Dakota after finishing his senior year at Warroad High School, where he nearly scored in every game. Although he missed scoring in each game by only two contests, he did record a point in each game of the 2009-10 season. He was a finalist for the Mr. Hockey Award out of 10 finalists.
Nino Niederreiter - Right WingBorn: September 8, 1992

The Islanders’ first round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Niederreiter made a name for himself at the 2010 World Junior Championship as a member of Team Switzerland. His 10 points in seven games led the Swiss to a surprising fourth place finish and earned Nino a spot on the tournament all-star team. As a member of the WHL’s Portland Winter Hawks, Niederreiter finished second league-wide among rookies with 36 goals in his first North American campaign.
Kirill Petrov – Right WingBorn: April 13, 1990

Petrov was selected by the Islanders in the third round, 73rd overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. As captain, he led Team Russia in scoring at the 2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He had also represented Russia in the 2008 Under-18 IIHF World Championships, where he was named Top Forward and won a spot on the All-Star team.
Rich Purslow - Forward Born: July 30, 1986

Purslow is coming off his junior year at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. In the 2008-09 season, Purslow played in all 41 games and concluded the season with 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points. He played two seasons with the Des Moines Buccaneers from 2005-2007. In 2007, Purslow finished with 82 pointes and 55 assists, landing him at the top spot as leading scorer in USHL.
Rhett Rakhshani – Right WingBorn: March 6, 1988

Rakhshani finished his career at the University of Denver with the best season of his college career. The senior captain of the Pioneers, Rakhshani was named a Top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and was selected by several publications as a First-Team All-American. At the season’s end, Rakhshani signed a profession contract with the Islanders and joined the Sound Tigers for their final five regular season games and the Calder Cup Playoffs.

In an injury-plagued 2009-10 season, Romano managed to score 19 points in 33 games as a member of the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos. Romano missed the first two-and-a-half months of the season due to shoulder surgery and then missed the final portion of the season due to a neck injury. In 2008-09, Romano finished second on the Broncos with 36 goals in 52 games.
TJ Sarcona - ForwardBorn: 6/1/92

Hometown: West Islip, NY
Sarcona posted 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) last year with the New Jersey Rockets in his first full season in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League. The Chicago Steel selected the Islanders Camp Invite in the Eighteenth Round (225th Overall) of the 2009 USHL Entry Draft, and later shipped his rights along with three other players to the Tri-City storm in exchange for the first overall pick in 2010.
Stephen Schultz – WingBorn: December 7, 1987

Before having his season interrupted by injuries, Schultz collected 19 points in the first 19 games of Colorado College’s season. He will return to Colorado College this upcoming season with hopes of playing a full season and besting his career high of 20 points (5 goals, 15 assists) from his abridged 2009-10 campaign.

Played the last three seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University. He tallied 18 points (eight goals and 10 assists) in 24 games with the Eagles.

Stone ranked 11th among EJHL scorers last season with 60 points (27 goals, 33 assists) to help the New Hampshire Monarchs capture the regular season and EJHL Championship. The Islanders Camp Invite will attend Northeastern University this fall.
Rudy Sulmonte – Right WingBorn: February 17, 1992

A camp invite in 2010, Queens’ own Rudy Salmonte is headed to the college ranks in the fall. After two successful seasons with the New Jersey Rockets Junior A team, Sulmonte is set to play for Mercyhurst University in 2010-11. In 2009-10, Sulmonte racked up 70 points (32 goals, 38 assists) in just 40 games and finished fourth overall in AJHL scoring.

Hometown: Winnipeg, MAN

David Toews just finished his sophomore year at the University of North Dakota, playing in 32 games and scoring 15 points. As a freshman, he played alongside fellow Islanders draft pick Jason Gregoire. Prior to NCAA play, Toews scored 100 points in 51 games for Shattuck-St. Mary’s, leading the team to back-to-back National Championships. He was selected by the New York Islanders in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and is the brother of 2010 Conn Smythe winner, Jonathan Toews.

As a member of the Boston University Terriers, Trivino scored 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists) in his sophomore season. As a freshman, Trivino and the Terriers defeated Miami (OH) to win the NCAA Division I Championship.

In 2010, Ullstrom signed a 3-year entry-level deal with the New York Islanders. He made an appearance on Team Sweden at the 2009 World Junior Championship in Ottawa. He played for HV 71 in the Swedish Elite League the past three seasons after concluding with a strong Swedish junior league season. In the 2007-08 SJL season, Ullstrom played 40 games and posted 54 points, tallying 27 goals.

A camp invite, Yamada represented Japan as the captain at the 2010 World U18 Championship Division 1A this past April where he assisted the team in winning the bronze medal.

Calvin de Haan represented Canada in the 2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, where the team won a silver medal. After having a successful year in the 2008-09 season with the Oshawa Generals, de Haan was selected to the 2009 OHL All-Star Classic, selected to the 2009 CHL Top Prospects Game, named Oshawa's Rookie of the Year, and named Top Defenseman. He finished with 63 points in 68 games and followed up with the Generals for a second season in 2009-10.

Mark Katic played for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the 2009-10 season, making his professional debut. While playing for the Sarnia Sting in 2008-09, Katic won a spot on the OHL Western Conference All-Star team. He played 63 games and totaled 54 points, 13-41. He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the third round of the 2007 NHL entry Draft.

Kevin Poulin recorded a successful year in the 2009-10 season while playing for the QMJHL’s Victoriaville Tigers. He was named a second-team QMJHL All-Star in March 2010, named Defensive Player of the Week in February 2010 and named Defensive Player of the Month in November 2009. With 81 career wins, Poulin holds the Tigers’ record for most career wins.
