Prior to his professional experience, Mark Eaton spent two years at the University of Notre Dame, but it was the experience he gained on Long Island that helped jump start his career. While in his junior and senior year of high school, the Wilmington, Delaware native commuted to play the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons for the Apple Core Junior B’s in Long Beach.
“It was a great experience for me,” Eaton said about playing for Apple Core. “I loved playing here in Long Island. It was a huge stepping stone in my hockey career. From there I went to the USHL out in Iowa and from there to College, so playing on Long Island was huge for me and my hockey career.”
More than 15 years later, the defenseman started to plan his return to the Island. The veteran defenseman signed a two-year contract with the Islanders on July second, and soon after made arrangements to move his family to Long Island from Pittsburgh.
“I’m looking forward to it. My wife and I, my family, we’re definitely looking forward to it,” said Eaton. “We know a lot of people who have lived in the Long Island area and they have loved living here. We’re excited to be a part of it.”
