The New York Islanders along with Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) today announced that free Optimum WiFi wireless Internet access is now available throughout Nassau Coliseum.  The network has been designed and built to support thousands of simultaneous users, making Nassau Coliseum the largest Optimum WiFi hot spot on Long Island.

Getting online while enjoying an Islanders game or a concert at Nassau Coliseum has never been easier, with WiFi access available in the arena, lobby and concession areas.  Visitors using portable WiFi-enabled devices such as Smartphones can experience limited free access to Optimum WiFi, while Optimum Online customers enjoy unlimited access.

“Optimum WiFi has proven to be enormously popular with our customers, and we could not be more pleased to be able to make this fast and free wireless Internet access available throughout Nassau Coliseum,” said Kevin Curran, Cablevision’s senior vice president of wireless development.  “Particularly with the explosion of web-enabled hand-held devices and demands on cellular data services, we think Optimum WiFi is going to be a very important and useful enhancement, especially for Optimum Online customers visiting the Coliseum.”

“The availability of free wireless Internet access is a great amenity that will be hugely popular with the nearly 1.5 million fans and visitors that come to Nassau Coliseum every year,” said Justin Johnson, SVP, Corporate Partnerships, New York Islanders.  “This will allow visitors to surf the web easily and quickly while enjoying Islander games, concerts and family shows.”

Optimum WiFi is the nation’s largest and most advanced WiFi network, based on geographic coverage, spanning tens of thousands of access points, across the company’s Long Island and tri-state service area.  Optimum WiFi is also broadly available in high-traffic and commercial locations like downtown areas, parks and other locations across Cablevision’s New York, New Jersey and Connecticut service areas.  The network spans thousands of access points, including outdoor availability at almost all of the Long Island Railroad and Metro North railroad platforms and parking lots in Cablevision’s service area.  More information on Optimum WiFi, including detailed coverage maps, is available at

Since its launch on Long Island in 2008, the size of the Optimum WiFi network on Long Island has more than doubled, largely based on customer demand, and now includes more than 500 indoor retail locations, through a partnership with Optimum Business, which offers home-based and small and medium-sized businesses high-speed Internet and voice communications products along with bottom line benefits like predictable flat rate pricing and highly reliable voice and data services to support their business needs.

Current Optimum Online customers can access Optimum WiFi using portable WiFi-enabled devices, like the iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and laptop computers using a simple sign-on screen.  Once a customer logs into the service by entering their Optimum User ID and password, the network delivers speeds of up to 3.0 Mbps downstream and 1.5 Mbps upstream.  Recently, Optimum WiFi added the “Automatic Sign In” feature that makes using the Optimum WiFi network easier than ever.  Users can sign in to Optimum WiFi just once, and their WiFi-enabled device will automatically connect to the network at any of the thousands of locations where Optimum WiFi is available.
