The team announced via Facebook and Twitter that morning that the team had requested a change and that a new song would be debuting that afternoon. Fans anxiously awaited.
Some fans were shocked, some were mad, some were happy, and some were confused. But the saying goes, "you can't make all the people happy all of the time.." or something to that effect.
What many out there in Islanders Country may not realize is that this change was initiated by the players who gathered together to sign a petition to change the song.
Zenon Konpka led the charge and here is a short video explaining the change.
Konopka asks teammate John Tavares about the song and what he thinks about it.
So there you have it. The players, trying to create their own identity and establish themselves early in 2010-2011 season are looking forward to all the fans chanting and singing along as the Islanders drive toward their goal of making the playoffs.
