Islanders Recall Nathan Lawson From Sound Tigers
The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Nathan Lawson has been recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis. Goaltender Rick DiPietro, who was not scheduled to start tonight’s home game against the Phoenix Coyotes, participated in the Islanders’ morning skate today, but is experiencing swelling in his knee.

Lawson, 27, is expected to make his NHL debut tonight. The Calgary, Alberta, native spent the first five games of this season on injured reserve, before being returned to the Sound Tigers on Oct. 16. In nine AHL games with the Sound Tigers, the fourth-year professional shows a 2-4-2 record with a 3.78 GAA and a .890 save percentage. Last season, Lawson played in a career-high 36 AHL games with Bridgeport, posting a 2.52 GAA with a .922 save percentage with a 16-16-3 record.

In 76 career AHL games, all with Bridgeport, Lawson has a 37-29-7 record. He played three seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Alaska – Anchorage, and has also seen action in the East Coast Hockey League with the Phoenix Roadrunners and the Utah Grizzlies.
