Looking around Nassau Coliseum during these winter months, one would be hard-pressed to find many fans without a puffy coat or cozy jacket to help battle the weather. Unfortunately, countless Americans have to deal with this time of year with out a warm coat. Due to the problematic economy and numerous other issues, scores of Long Islanders cannot afford warm outerwear.
The New York Islanders Children’s Foundation is trying to help those in the local community who need that warmth. The ICF partnered with Burlington Coat Factory, ABC's Good Morning America and One Warm Coat for their Warm Coats & Warm Hearts Drive to hold two coat drives at the Coliseum this January.
Islanders staff and players’ wives will be collecting new and gently worn jackets from fans before the Jan. 20 and Jan. 23 games against the Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres. Fans attending the back-to-back contests are encouraged to drop off the coats they are no longer in need of at the box office, gate 16 or gate 1. Fans who donate coats will receive a voucher good for two tickets to the February 17 Islanders contest against the Boston Bruins.
One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization that assists in the donation of coats. One Warm Coat helps individuals, groups, companies and organizations across the country collect coats and deliver them to local agencies that distribute them free, to people in need.
The organization’s goal is to ensure that anyone who needs a coat has one. Providing this simple yet vital need helps people live productive lives year round. More than 1.5 million coats have been collected and distributed through One Warm Coat activities since 1992.
The Islanders Children’s Foundation is dedicated to supporting Long Island based non-profit organizations that provide opportunities to children. The Foundation will work with those children’s charities that focus on the areas of health, education, and youth hockey development. Our fans, through their participation in our numerous fundraising events and activities, raise funding for the Foundation.
