The day after the New York Islanders wrapped the 2010-11 season, the team had one final responsibility before departing Long Island for the summer.
They gathered at Nassau Coliseum on Sunday morning for their end-of-season meetings with the Islanders coaching staff and management, to sign various items for off-season appearances, charity events and gifts, but they also had one final scrum with the local media.
This day, called many things across the industry, is best known as Break Down Day or Clean Up Day, but whatever you call it, there was just one sentiment amongst each player who spoke to the media: This day came too soon.
The team may be bumped and bruised, but they were still hoping they'd find themselves with a playoff birth.
Despite their disappointment, the Islanders sentiment remained steady. They are extremely confident in their abilities as a team and that next year, a deep playoff run is something they look forward to obtaining.
