Ann Rina, the Islanders Community Relations Manager, and Syd Mandelbaum, the CEO and Founder of Rock and Wrap it Up! received their award plaques from Congresswoman Velazquez and the EPA’s Regional Administrator, Judith Enck, at the EPA’s downtown New York City offices.
The award, which celebrates the club's outstanding commitment to protecting and enhancing environmental quality and public health, is the highest recognition presented to the public by the EPA.

This past season, the Islanders diverted 9,765 pounds of food waste from reaching a landfill, while providing over 7,500 meals to local food banks. The 2010-11 season was the fifth campaign in which the Islanders have participated in a food recovery program.
“This terrific partnership between the New York Islanders and Rock and Wrap it Up! has resulted in over 13,000 hungry New Yorkers being fed,” Mandelbaum said. “We look forward to the coming season as all food from Nassau Coliseum will feed the hungry.”
This season, the Islanders delivered and served food at:
- Salt and Sea Mission, Brooklyn, NY
- Our Brother’s Keeper HIV Center, Hempstead, NY
- John The Baptist Pantry, Rockaway Park, Queens, NY
- Martin Luther King Jr. Center, Long Beach NY
- Rosa Parks, INN, Roosevelt, NY
Over the past three seasons, the Islanders also recovered an additional 5,250 meals and served them to those in need in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island.
According to the EPA, Environmental Quality Award recipients are recognized for the high level of their accomplishments in improving environmental quality in their specific regions. Awardees dedicate countless hours, both professionally and personally, to reach this goal.
