New York Islanders
“The Birth of the Islanders” – MSG explores the very beginnings of the New York lslanders, from the team’s birth in 1972-73 to the franchise’s first-ever playoff series in 1975, including rare footage of J.P. Parise’s series-clinching overtime goal in Game 3 against the New York Rangers. Islanders fans will hear from “The Architect” Bill Torrey, Hall of Fame coach Al Arbour and a number of legends from those early Islanders teams. Also joining host Al Trautwig for a special retro broadcast is Hall of Famer Clark Gillies as the two talk over a coaches’ film from April 8, 1975 – the Islanders first playoff game in only the third year of the franchise. Though years before their dynasty in the ‘80s, the young Islanders started to gain some recognition and respect around the NHL.
