Islanders Scout Tim MacLean
On Brandon Saad - Saad has very good size and top-two line skills. While he wasn’t as good as expected this year, he still put up solid offensive numbers. He has a very hard shot and quick release. He improved his two-way game and became a more complete player this year. He has very good upside.
NHL Central Scouting’s Chris Edwards
On Brandon Saad - Brandon has very good speed and agility and that makes him dangerous, he’s solid on his skates and fights through checks very well. He plays a solid two-way game and is very responsible defensively.
Islanders Scout Vellu Kautonen
On Joel Mustonen - Mustonen is a solid two-way center. He has a good shot and therefore was used a lot on the power-play.

Ontario Hockey League
Saginaw Spirit
The Saginaw Spirit entered the league under a new name in 2002. Previously, they were the North Bay Centinnals, St. Catharines Black Hawks, amongst others.
The Islanders have never drafted a player from the Spirit. However, they have drafted two players from the Centinnals (Kevin Vescio - 1983, 177th overall; and Tom Warden - 1984, 187th overall) and two from the Black Hawks (Ron Phillips - 1974, 238th overall; and Dave Salvian - 1975, 29th overall). None of the four players ever dressed for a game in the NHL.
