Islanders Scout Trent Klatt
On Sven Baertschi - Baertschi is a gifted one-on-one player. He has strong ability to beat guys with his skill. He competes hard and is an energetic player.

NHL Central Scouting's Blair MacDonald
On Sven Baertschi - Baertschi is a finesse player. He has very quick hands and is a deft puckhandler. His radar vision probably makes him the best in the WHL at distributing the puck.

Portland head coach Mike Johnston
On Sven Baertschi - Quick, skilled, very fast type of player... I don't think anyone can stay on the ice as long as he does. We have to tell him to get off the ice 45 minutes after practice ends. He stays out there forever to work on his game. He works on inside-outside moves, quick shots and little foot movement.

Islanders Scout Vellu Kautonen
On Miikka Salomaki - Salomaki is a hard working two-way center who likes to play physical. He’s already very strong.

Western Hockey League
Portland Winterhawks

The Portland Winterhawks are one of five teams in the WHL who play in the United States. They have been Memorial Cup Champions twice, with their most recent championship coming during the 1997-98 season. This past season, the Winterhawks won the U.S. Division before moving on to the WHL playoffs, where they lost in the Conference finals to the Kootenay Ice.

The most recent Winterhawk selected by the Islanders was Nino Neiderreriter (2010, 5th overall). If drafted by the Islanders, Sven Baertschi would be the fourth player chosen out of Portland, joining Neiderreriter, Jeff Finley (1985, 55th overall) and Richard Kromm (1982, 37th overall).
