Islanders 2011-12 Regular Season Schedule Released
40 Year Anniversary Season opens Oct. 8 against the Florida Panthers

The team will open the season with a four-game homestand. On Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m., the Minnesota Wild will come to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Islanders will then host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., before closing out the stretch with a marquee match-up against their cross-town rivals, the New York Rangers, on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
The Islanders will host the Rangers a total of three times this season. After the Oct. 15 date, the next meeting between the teams at home is set for Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and the final meeting at the Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
The rivalry that blossomed last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins will continue when Sidney Crosby leads his team to Long Island, starting on Tuesday, Oct. 25, again on Saturday, Dec. 10 and a final time on Thursday, Mar. 29. All games have a 7 p.m. start time.
The remaining members of the Atlantic Division, the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils will also play three times each at Nassau Coliseum. The Devils will be on Long Island Friday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m., Sunday, Mar. 4 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Mar. 10 at 7 p.m. The Islanders will host the Flyers on Wednesday, Nov. 23, Thursday, Jan. 12 and Thursday, Mar. 15, with all games having a 7 p.m. opening faceoff.
The Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins are set to take on the Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Mar. 31 at 1 p.m. Alex Ovechkin and the Eastern Conference regular season champion Washington Capitals will face-off against the Islanders in a pair of 7 p.m. games Saturday, Nov. 5 and Tuesday, Mar. 13.
The Islanders will host their Draft Party on Friday, June 24 at Nassau Coliseum. Islanders players John Tavares, Matt Moulson, Michael Grabner, Travis Hamonic, Trevor Gillies, Matt Martin, Micheal Haley and Kevin Poulin will all be in attendance. Watch the Draft live with interviews from Islanders Owner Charles Wang, General Manager Garth Snow, Head Coach Jack Capuano and various other members of the Hockey Operations staff. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase discounted merchandise, have a tour of the dressing room and take part in last year’s popular Trevor Gillies “Stache Station.” Tickets to the event are free and available online at www.newyorkislanders.com.
