Strome hopes to impress Canadian brass
Less than two months after being selected with the fifth overall choice at the 2011 Entry Draft by the New York Islanders, forward Ryan Strome is living out the dream at Canadian National Junior Team development camp in Edmonton this week.

The goal, of course, is to ultimately earn a spot on the 22-man Canadian roster that will represent the country at the World Junior Championship in December.

"It's an overused cliché, but it's something every kid watches when they're young and it was the same for me," Strome said of the WJC. "It's something I've always dreamed of so it's a huge honor. After being left off some of the Under-18 teams, this is somewhat of my chance to prove I belong. It's very excited."

Strome realizes, whether he makes the team or not, that he will leave camp a better player.

"The bottom line is coming out better than you were before you entered," he said. "There's a lot to learn, there lot of good players here. I think if you can leave the camp a better player, that's important. In the long run, you'll benefit from that."

Not that Strome would need to make significant adjustments to his game to part camp a better player.

He led the Niagara IceDogs in scoring last season and finished third in the Ontario Hockey League with 106 points, including 33 goals.
