The Islanders forward attended an autograph signing for his fan-designed T-shirt and a Meet-Up at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza

Moulson meets his tweeps
A trip to the mall followed by dinner at a pizza place sounds like a normal weeknight for many Long Islanders, but for Islanders star Matt Moulson, what seems like a simple night on paper is far from it.

The 30-goal scorer made an appearance at the team store at the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, followed by a nightcap at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Carle Place. For Moulson, it was four hours of signing autographs, taking pictures and interacting with fans.

“It’s a lot of fun to meet people who support this team and support the players,” Moulson said. “It’s something I enjoy.”

Wednesday also marked the release of Moulson’s new t-shirt, which was designed by a couple of Islanders fans. Moulson held a contest via Twitter and received dozens of entries, but in the end, could only choose one. Wednesday was Moulson’s first opportunity to meet the contest winners after weeks of designing the final product.

“The guys who designed it did a great job,” Moulson said. “It was great to finally meet them and put a face to the people who were designing it.”

The shirt features an outline of Moulson’s hair with his signature “flow” as the main attention grabber. Moulson has become a fan favorite during his two years with the Islanders and it is apparent that his unparalleled locks are one reason why. It may also be the fact that he has scored over 30 goals in each of the past two seasons.

His hairstyle and his on-ice production aren’t the only reasons why Islanders fans have taken a liking to Moulson. He genuinely enjoys interacting with fans whenever he has the chance and it shows during his lengthy conversations with them.

Moulson was scheduled to begin signing autographs at the team store at 6:30 p.m., but he announced on Twitter that he’d be arriving early because there were so many people lined up and he wanted to accommodate all of the Islanders faithful who showed.

Many fans brought their own memorabilia for Moulson to sign and a few of them even gave him gifts.

“One thing I always enjoy is gifts,” he said. “I got some neat things today, like pictures with my name spelled out. I also got a hat and a dog toy. It’s a lot of fun. There are so many creative people and everyone seems to be a little different, but everyone has something very interesting to bring to the table.”

Moulson was like a presidential candidate, posing for pictures, shaking hands and even holding babies. He met with every Islanders fan in the Sunrise Mall then headed directly to Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza – for an #Isles Meet-up.

Upon arrival at Anthony’s, Moulson was greeted by more fans and cameras, but this time it was fans with whom he interacts on a daily basis using Twitter.

“I’m getting to put a face to the Twitter name more and more now,” he said. “It’s good to connect with them on a personal level. Hopefully it’s interesting for them, but it’s really interesting for me.”

Fans lined up to meet one of the Islanders top goal scorers in the crowded restaurant and even though Moulson was eager to try Anthony’s roasted cauliflower pizza, he continued to sign for, and take pictures with, as many people as possible.

 “I’ve never been here (Anthony’s) before, but it may have to be one of my more frequent stops for lunch after trying that cauliflower pizza,” Moulson said. “It’s good to get out to Long Island and experience some things I don’t get to do too much at other places. It’s great to meet the people here and experience some great food.”

It was a busy evening for Moulson, but the Islanders forward is excited to come down to Long Island and meet some more fans again soon.

“It was a good time today and hopefully everyone had as good of a time as I did,” he said.
