| Islanders forward Matt Martin visited a clinic at Cantiague Park on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011. |
Over fifty children lined up to greet Martin, all eager to get tips from a professional hockey player. The rugged forward led the group through shooting and passing drills, dishing out advice instead of hits. While the kids were excitedly trying to act like NHL players, Martin took the opportunity to play like a kid.
Before leaving the ice, Martin organized a game of British Bulldog, a variation of elimination tag where skaters have to make it from end to end without getting touched by a growing number of taggers. After the game ended, Martin gave out a special treat to the winner, his game-used stick, which he brought to the clinic. After the fun and games, Martin sent all the children home with autographs and pictures to perfectly cap the holiday season.
