In his third season with the New York Islanders, John Tavares is finally an All Star.

Islanders Head Coach Jack Capuano believes his top-line center is completely deserving of the honor.

“I know we’re under .500, but if you take John off our team there is going to be a lack of scoring," Capuano said. "So to me, what he does for the New York Islanders is definitely an All Star consideration. And do I think he’s an All Star? Absolutely.”

Through 40 games this season, the 21-year-old leads all Islanders in scoring with 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists). And though he’s not the team’s leading goal scorer or assist leader, his increased confidence and strength on the puck has helped him make some unbelievable plays that has had him recognized as the team’s first start in each of the Islanders last four wins.

“Johnny’s been playing terrific for us,” said Tavares’ linemate, Kyle Okposo. “He’s a very special player. It helps your confidence any time you play with him, a guy like that who can find you, just makes smart plays. His work ethic has been so great this year. He just works so hard and that’s why he’s had some of the success that he’s had.”

Tavares has recorded 10 multi-point games, including two consecutive four-point efforts and one hat trick. Each and every night, the Islanders assistant captain is one of the hardest working players on the ice.

The 2012 Tim Hortons NHL® All-Star Game will take place in Ottawa Jan. 29 at Scotiabank Place. The game will be broadcasted live from CBC and RDS in Canada and the NBC Sports Network in the United States.
