1st Star – Ryan Strome
Ryan Strome’s 10-point weekend powered the Niagara Icedogs offense to score 23 goals over two contests. Strome dished out four assists in a 10-3 rout of Belleville on Saturday, topping himself for five goals and one assist in a 13-4 win over Erie on Sunday. The Isles fifth overall pick in 2011 also chipped in an assist on Thursday’s 2-1 win against Saginaw. Strome is third on the Icedogs with 28 goals despite playing 15 and 20 fewer games than the two leading scorers. Behind Strome, the Icedogs are winners of four straight and are rolling along in March.
|Micheal Haley's hands are getting hot for Bridgeport.
Haley scored his 11th and 12th goals Sunday en route to a 6-3 win over the Providence Bruins. The Sound Tigers grinder was on his way to a Gordie Howe hat trick, dropping the gloves with Nathan McIver in the first period. This was Haley’s second multi-goal game in under a month as the Guelph, ON native had a hat trick on Feb. 11. Haley’s 12 goals tie his career high set last season and his 99 penalty minutes lead the Sound Tigers.
3rd Star – Scott Mayfield
Mayfield’s strong play carried over to last week as the rookie defenseman notched two assists in Friday’s 3-0 win against the University of Nebraska Omaha. Mayfield assisted on the game-winner on Friday and Denver is 9-1 when he records a point. Mayfield was held off the score sheet on Saturday, but Denver continued their post-Christmas run, beating Nebraska Omaha 3-2 in overtime.
