Islanders prospects three stars of the week

First Star - Brock Nelson
Nelson scored the championship-winning goal as North Dakota continued an incredible season, bringing home their third straight Western Collegiate Hockey Associated title. Nelson was a force in the Fighting Sioux’s championship weekend, scoring four goals in three games, including two game-winners against St. Cloud State and Denver. The Islanders first-round pick in 2010 is North Dakota’s leading goal-scorer (27) and points leader (44), appearing in all 40 games. Nelson leads North Dakota into the NCAA’s Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship as the West Regional's No. 1 seed.

Second Star - Brenden Kichton
Kichton ended his regular season with six points (3g/3a) in three games last week. The Spruce Grove, Alta. native scored two goals and one assist in Thursday’s 6-3 win over Kamloops and notched an assist in Friday’s 4-3 loss to Seattle. On Saturday, Kichton scored the game-winning goal and added an assist as the Chiefs beat Tri-City 3-2. The Islanders fifth-round pick in last summer's draft finished the 2011-12 season as the Western Hockey Leauge’s highest-scoring defenseman with 74 points (15g/57a) in 71 games. Kichton’s fantastic season continues as Spokane faces Vancouver in the first round of the WHL playoffs.

Third Star - Andrey Pedan
Pedan picked up more assists last week as the Guelph Storm won all three of their games. Pedan had an assist in Wednesday’s 5-3 win over Erie and two in Friday’s 4-0 win against Owen Sound before going pointless in Saturday’s 3-1 rematch with Owen Sound. The Islanders third-round selection in 2011 finished the regular season with 40 points (10g/30a) in 63 games on the Guelph blueline. Like Nelson and Kichton, Pedan’s season continues as Guelph takes on Plymouth in the opening round of the OHL playoffs.
