Strome's Icedogs, Kabanov's Cataractes opened second round with OT thrillers

Islanders prospect Kirill Kabanov scored a goal with three assists, but his Shawinigan Cataractes fell to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens 7-6 in overtime Friday in the second round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Playoffs.
The second-ranked Cataractes blew opened a 3-3 game with three goals in less than two minutes to start the third period, but Chicoutimi clawed back later in the frame to force overtime. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the game winner at 10:05 of the first overtime.
Kabanov had points on the first three Shawinigan goals and four of the first five. In five games this postseason, the Islanders' third round pick (65th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, has three goals and five assists with a plus-5 rating. The Cataractes swept their opening-round series against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
Niagara 2 Brampton 1 (OT)
Islanders prospect Ryan Strome scored his sixth goal of the playoffs as the Niagara IceDogs earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the Brampton Battalion in game one of their Eastern Conference Semifinal on Friday night.
The IceDogs scored the opening goal for the sixth time in seven playoff games, as Strome snapped home his 11th point of the playoffs to make it 1-0 Niagara. David Pacan scored in overtime to give the IceDogs a 1-0 lead in the second-round series.
Strome is tied for sixth in OHL Playoff scoring with 11 points (six goals, five assists) in seven games. Niagara teammate and fellow Islanders prospect Mitchell Theoret has two assists in four games this postseason.
Niagara beat the Oshawa Generals 4-2 in the opening round of the playoffs. They travel to Brampton for game two on Sunday at 2 p.m.
