Name That Islander!
As we approach this weekend's NHL Draft in Pittsburgh, there is constant speculation as to which prospects will make it to the NHL, and which ones will become stars in the league. Sometimes the scouting reports are accurate, but sometimes they are not.

We have taken old scouting reports on seven current New York Islanders from Hockey's Future, and placed them below. Can you match each scouting report with the Islanders listed? Answers are at the bottom.

A. John Tavares B. Dylan Reese C. Frans Nielsen D. Matt Moulson E. Andrew MacDonald F. Michael Grabner G. Josh Bailey

1.“…is a very good skater with great quickness and nice soft hands. He is a good playmaker and possesses great sense and passion for the game. He also has a solid shot. He is very aware of his duties as a center and he seems to enjoy playing defense.”

2. “His game is all skating and skill. He has the speed to find openings and create scoring opportunities with the ability to stickhandle at top speed. He is very difficult to stop on breakaways and other situations close to the net. He has yet to maintain the consistent performance that his high talent level suggests and this has been a source of frustration at times. As with many high level scorers who dominate at an early level, two-way play is an area that needs to be refined as he progresses in pro hockey. His dominant talent level make him dangerous to opponents both in the power play and penalty kill phases of the game.”

Islanders General Manager Garth Snow selected Josh Bailey with the ninth overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft
3. “Used in all situations, this player has an excellent work ethic and can play in both ends of the ice. He is a very good playmaker and can feed his teammates the puck and take face-offs very well. Often used as a quarterback on the power play, his hockey sense and leadership skills are excellent.”

4. “While much has been written about his offensive skills and outstanding skating and transitioning abilities, what isn’t mentioned as much is his hockey smarts and his continually improving sound defensive game. What has made him such a valuable commodity to his team’s blueline corps this season has been his continued improvement in the mental aspects of the game.”

5. “…has above average offensive skills for a blue liner, and a talent for creating quick offensive rushes. It is his ability to make tape-to-tape, up-ice passes and set up for quick shots off the point that make him, if not a true defenseman, a talented offensive-defenseman.”

6. “…is a top-flight talent, perhaps not in the same class as a Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin, but still a player you can build around.  Yes, he is not the fastest skater on the ice; yes, his defense -- while improving -- remains passable at best. But what can't be denied is his incredible hockey sense and offensive ability.”

7. “…Is a tremendously skilled player with hockey smarts to boot. He’s also an excellent skater with very good speed. He’s blessed with great hands, and his passing ability is outstanding. He uses his frame quite well. He’s strong and tough to move off of the puck. In addition to his well-publicized offensive skills, he is also a solid defensive player. He was utilized in his team’s penalty-killing situations and has done very well in breaking up plays, particularly in odd-man rush situations.”
