Toughest snipers at camp

Following this week’s prospect camp, caught up with the four goalies invited to camp to find out who they thought were the toughest shooters on the ice. Here’s what they had to say:

Alex Vazzano:

“The scrimmage was the first time I played against Nino Niederreiter and Casey Cizikas, and they’re two really good players. They have good shots and are tough to keep up with, but luckily I made a couple of saves on those guys. Mike Pereira on the other team – me and him go way back to prep school. He’s had my number for years, but we’re good friends so we joke about it.”

Mitch Gillam:

“Probably Ryan Strome. He’s got a great release and he shoots in stride. He can pick corners and he’s an all-around great player. He can play defense and offense, and when he’s coming down the wing, he’s thinking where he’s going to go and what he’s going to do, and you never really know. Sometimes he catches you off guard and sometimes I’ve got his number. It’s kind of back and forth, but he’s a great player.”

Kevin Boyle:

“They’re all great. It’s tough to pick one out. But Ryan Strome and Brock Nelson were tough to stop. They’re pretty good players.”

Ken Reiter:

“I’d have to say Mike Halmo. He’s really got a deceptive shot. Sometimes I think it’s coming in harder than it is, but he places it pretty well. John Persson had my number this week, especially after practice when I was tired. Those guys are definitely skilled.”
