Kichton Goes Off
Spokane Chiefs (Western Hockey League) defenseman and captain Brenden Kichton scored five points in two games last weekend. The Spruce Grove, AB, native helped Spokane to a win over the Victoriaville Royals with a four-point (two goals, two assists) effort Friday, Oct. 5 and extended his point streak to four games with an assist Saturday, Oct. 6 in a win against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The Islanders fifth-round (127th overall) selection in the 2011 NHL Draft ranks second on Spokane with seven points (two goals, five assists) in five games this season.

Koskinen Shuts The Door
KalPa (SM-Liiga) goaltender Mikko Koskinen built on his strong start to the season with a pair of victories this weekend, leading KalPa to a 5-1, 26-save victory Friday, Oct. 5 and a 6-2, 18-save win the following night. The Islanders second-round (31st overall) selection in the 2009 NHL Draft improved to 6-3-1 this season in Finland’s top league.

Lee Named Captain
Notre Dame (Central Collegiate Hockey Association) junior Anders Lee was named captain of the Fighting Irish on Monday, Oct. 1 and was selected to the preseason all-conference first team the following day. Lee, the Islanders sixth-round selection (152nd overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft, becomes the third Islanders prospect to be named captain of his amateur team this season, joining Kichton and Griffin Reinhart (Edmonton Oil Kings - WHL).
