NEWS & NOTES

Forward Nino Niederreiter scored his team-leading third goal of the season on Oct. 20 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and now has goals in his last six games with Bridgeport, dating back to last season. Niederreiter’s three goals are tied for eighth in the AHL.

Rookie forward John Persson scored the game-winning goal on Oct. 20 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He is tied with Binghamton’s Hugh Jessiman for the league-lead with two game-winners, with his other one coming Oct. 12 at Connecticut.

Through three games, forwards Brandon DeFazio and Colin McDonald and defenseman Travis Hamonic are tied for eighth in the league with plus-4 ratings. All seven players ahead of them have more games played.

Kevin Poulin is tied for the league lead with three wins, and is the only goaltender in the AHL to have started and won every game for his team so far. Poulin is 3-0-0 with a 2.68 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.

On Oct. 20 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Sound Tigers killed off all six Penguins power plays. Bridgeport has fended off the last 14 man advantages, dating back to Oct. 12 at Connecticut.

Sharks defenseman Matt Pelech is the older brother of Islanders 2012 third-round draft pick Adam Pelech. The older Pelech ranked third in the AHL with 16 fighting majors in 2011-12.

Falcons forward Ryan Johansen was a junior teammate of Nino Niederreiter with the Portland Winterhawks (Western Hockey League). Johansen was selected fourth overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets at the 2010 NHL Draft, while Niederreiter was selected fifth.
