Kichton’s outburst powers Chiefs
Defenseman Brenden Kichton of the Spokane Chiefs (Western Hockey League) continued his point-per-game pace last week, scoring four points in four games. On Oct. 23, his three assists and plus-3 rating led Spokane to a 6-1 win over the Prince George Cougars. In the following night’s rematch with Prince George, he scored a power play goal in a 4-2 losing effort. The Islanders fifth round (127th overall) pick in 2011 was held off the score sheet in the Chiefs’ other two games, but leads team defensemen with 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 15 games.
Pedan’s big goal lifts Guelph
Defenseman Andrey Pedan of the Guelph Storm (Ontario Hockey League) recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in three games last week. The Islanders third round (63rd overall) pick in 2011 assisted on two goals in a 6-4 loss against the Windsor Spitfires on Oct. 26, but scored the game-tying marker in the third period the next night at the London Knights. The Storm went on to win 4-3 in a shootout. Pedan co-leads Guelph defensemen with 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 15 games.
Pelech’s huge night leads Otters
Defenseman Adam Pelech (Erie Otters/Ontario Hockey League) earned three assists and a plus-3 rating on Oct. 24 in Erie’s 7-1 win over the Saginaw Spirit. The Toronto, ON native picked up a power play assist on Oct. 26 in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Pelech has 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in 15 games, more than double the offensive output of any other defenseman on his team.
Strome keeps racking up the points
Forward Ryan Strome (Niagara IceDogs/Ontario Hockey League), the Islanders first round (fifth overall) selection in the 2011 NHL Draft, added four points to his total in three games last week. He had a goal and a shorthanded assist in the first period of a 5-1 win against Sault Ste. Marie on Oct. 25, following that up with a two-assist performance the next night in a 7-2 loss at the Sudbury Wolves. Strome is tied for sixth in the OHL with 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists) in 16 games.
