Islanders 2011 second round pick Scott Mayfield helped the University of Denver go 1-0-1 in a pivotal two-game series at Nebraska-Omaha last weekend. Mayfield posted two assists in each game for a four-point weekend. After earning three out-of-a-possible four standings points, the Pioneers have now tied Nebraska-Omaha atop the WCHA standings. With 11 points (two goals, nine assists) midway through the season, Mayfield is now just one shy of his season total from last year.
Forward Mitchell Theoret has made a great first impression on his new Ontario Hockey League team, the Barrie Colts, with four points (one goal, three assists) in his first three games. The Colts acquired Theoret in a trade with the Niagara IceDogs just prior to the OHL trade deadline last week. Theoret has 46 points in 38 games this season.
Defenseman Brendan Kichton of the Spokane Chiefs (Western Hockey League) increased his points streak to eight games last weekend with two goals and two assists in two games. During the streak, Kichton has tallied a total of 13 points on five goals and eight assists. With a team-leading 53 points, Kicthon leads all WHL defensemen in scoring.
