Capuano Quotes 1\/21\/13
Jack Capuano talked to media before the Jan. 21 game between the Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning

Jack Capuano talked to media before the Jan. 21 game between the Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning. Here is some of what the Islanders Head Coach had to say.

On his health

I feel a little bit better. I had a rough night before the game the other night, no question. My fever escalated to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore with the infection, and I had to go [to the hospital]. But I got out yesterday, and I feel much better today.

On spending the season opener in the hospital
It was frustrating. I planned on going in at 5:30 like I usually do, and then around 5:00, 5:15, it just got to the point where the fever was over 102, and the infection was greater. They didn’t want to take any chances. They took me in, and it was a good thing I did, according to the doctors who took care of me.

On if he’ll be behind the bench for today’s game
If things go well with my meetings here at 11:30, I’ll be in. I just want to get checked out by the doctors first. I’m planning on it.

On who will be in goal, and the rest of the lineup
We’ll go back with [Evgeni Nabokov] today. The forward lines will be discussed after warm-ups. We’ll dress the extra forward, and go with the same defense. Hopefully we’ll create a little more offense today.

On being able to produce more offense Monday
You’ve got to move your feet and be in constant motion. Just watching us play in that game Saturday, you could tell some guys didn’t have their feet going. To be able to create offense and space for yourself and move the puck, this is a game now where you have to be moving your feet. I thought some guys were moving and creating, and other guys weren’t. That’s got to start from the first period when the puck drops. Short shifts and constant motion all over the ice, and make sure our D are moving and activating as well.

On controlling Tampa Bay’s power play
We talked about that last year with the unit they have. Sometimes they show one defenseman, or five forwards, but they’re all set up in the one-time position. They’re all set up where they need to be, especially with Malone with his big body in front of the net. So we have to be disciplined, but at the same time it’s a great challenge if the opportunity presents itself, then we have to do the job.

On the Islanders success at home against the Lightning last season
I think we eliminated our turnovers. When you have great skill on the ice like they have, you make them play a 200-foot game. If you make it a short track for them and you mismanage the puck, a lot of times they’re going to get offensive zone time, and with their speed and size down low, they create the opportunity for you to take penalties, and then they get on the power play. So we have to play a high percentage game. We have to do the right things at the right times and manage the puck if we’re going to have success against some of their highly-skilled forwards.
