Live Updates - Islanders at Bruins

7:00 p.m. - TD Garden - Boston, MA

Pre-game
Rick DiPietro gets the start tonight for the first time since Dec. 3, 2011. He's from the Boston suburb of Winthrop, so, this is a big night for a lot of reasons.

1st Period
4:52 BOS leads 1-0. Shot from the right point was redirected by Shawn Thornton. Dougie Hamilton took the shot.

5:54: Only a matter of time, but we have our first fight. Matt Carkner and Milan Lucic go at it in the Islanders zone. Both players landed a couple of shots.

11:13: And just like that, Keith Aucoin has a two-game goal streak. We're tied 1-1. Ullstrom cycled the puck behind the net to Colin McDonald. McDonald found Aucoin streaking toward the net, who slid it under Tuukka Rask on a one-timer.

16:34: Matt Martin and Thornton dropped the gloves, but the referees broke it up. This followed a big hit by Daniel Paille on Brian Strait in the Islanders zone. Fans wanted to see them go. Some confusion about who all should be in the penalty box. Martin gets 4 for unsportsmanlike, Paille gets 2 for unsportsmanlike, Thornton gets 10 for unsportsmanlike. In layman's terms: Boston gets a two-minute advantage.

17:53: DiPietro just made a great sequence of back-to-back saves - one from his left and a diving save to his right. They're reviewing the play, but doesn't look to have crossed the line as it got trapped in his pads.

17:53: No goal.

18:34: Islanders kill that one off, and are 11-for-11 on the PK this season. DiPietro needed another big save as the penalty expired to keep the game level.

End 1st: NYI 1 BOS 1. Shots: NYI 11 BOS 14. Islanders will have 1:39 remaining on their first power play of the game when we start the second.

2nd Period
0:21: Puck may have beaten Rask on the power play. Moulson shoveled it toward the net, it got lost under the Boston netminder's skate, but was covered up near the goal line. No apparent conclusive replay, so this game stays tied.

9:50: Keith Aucoin is the clubhouse leader for first star of the game. Following a Boston turnover in their own zone, the puck just drifted through the right circle. Aucoin charged it, and one-timed a slapper past Rask. That's his first career two-goal game. This one is unassisted. 2-1 NYI.

Update: This will never show up in the box score, but Colin McDonald caused the turnover with a persistent forecheck.

13:42: Boston evens it up at 2-2 on a bad bounce for the Islanders. Gregory Campbell's first of the season comes after David Krejci threw the puck toward the net. It bounced off the skate of an Islanders defender and wound up right on Campbell's stick just outside the crease.

End 2nd: We're still tied 2-2. DiPietro had to be solid there at the end, making a handful of clutch saves. Defense is helping with the rebounds tonight. Shots: NYI 20 BOS 21.

3rd Period
7:07: Zdeno Chara scores to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. Milan Lucic made a pass from near the goal line to Chara at the top of the slot. The big defenseman wristed the shot through traffic and beat DiPietro glove-side.

13:33: Patrice Bergeron makes it 4-2 Boston on a breakaway goal. He took a feed from Brad Marchand and broke into the zone down the middle, while the two Islandes defensemen were spread wide. Bergeron deked to his forehand and swept the puck past DiPietro.
