Reinhart Leads Oil Kings to Perfect Week
Griffin Reinhart, the Islanders’ fourth overall selection in the 2012 NHL Draft, helped lead the Edmonton Oil Kings (Western Hockey League) to a 4-0-0-0 week as he scored four points (two goals, two assists). Reinhart also dropped the gloves for the first time all season, getting the upper-hand on Lethbridge’s Jaimen Yakubowski. Edmonton is now on a five-game winning streak and sits comfortably in first place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference with a 15-point lead.
Petrov’s Big Game Helps Ak-Bars to a Big Win
Kirill Petrov tallied two assists, on Wednesday, Jan. 23 in a 5-1 win for Ak-Bars Kazan (Kontinental Hockey League) over Mettalurg. Petrov and Ak-Bars currently find themselves in second place in the KHL’s Eastern Conference with a six-point advantage on third place Mettalurg. Petrov’s team, located nearly 500 miles east of Moscow, has surrendered the fewest goals while netting the fourth most in the 26-team league.
Koskinen’s Shutout Propels KalPa
Finnish goaltender Mikko Koskinen registered a 30-save shutout for KalPa (SM-Liiga) over SaiPa Lappeenaranta this past week. Koskinen now has the fourth-best GAA of all goaltenders in SM-Liiga that have played more than 10 games this season. His five shutouts rank second in the league.
