Twenty of the best 11 and 12-year-old hockey players from Long Island have been named to the Junior Islanders squad, which will participate in the 54th Annual Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament in February. The team will be coached by former Islander Benoit Hogue and Islanders Skills Coach Bernie Cassell. With the support from Islanders management and staff, the Junior Islanders are considered an important part of the Islanders family.

The 54th Annual Quebec International Pee-Wee Tournament will take place from Feb. 13-24. About 2,300 young hockey players from 16 countries come to Quebec to participate in the “World Championships of Pee-Wee Hockey.” Some of the countries represented include the United States, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, England, France, South Africa and Mexico.

The 12-day tournament draws total attendances of around 200,000 fans each year. The event was founded in 1960 and its continued importance can be seen in the names of its notable alumni. Many National Hockey League stars, including Patrick Roy, Guy Lafleur, Marcel Dionne, Gilbert Perrault, Mark Howe, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Eric Lindros have participated in past tournaments.
