Morning Skate Updates 1\/31\/13
The Devils and Islanders will have morning skate at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ in preparation for their game tonight. Check this space for the latest updates throughout the skate.

10:30: Devils out for skate. Islanders arrived at the building just a couple minutes ago.

10:44: Islanders skate this morning will be optional. We'll see who takes the ice. We'll scatter some quotes from the Devils side shortly.

10:56: Adam Henrique will be in the lineup for the Devils tonight.

11:00: Henrique on playing his first game of the season tonight: "I'm excited. Looking forward to it. Obviously it's been a while."

11:04: Henrique on his mental state after time off following a thumb injury: "I'm good. I'm excited. I've been thinking about the game more and more since yesterday. I found out this morning that I was going to play tonight and I'm going to take it one game at a time."

11:09: Here's the Devils lines:
16 Jacob Josefson - 19 Travis Zajac - 17 Ilya Kovalchuk
8 Dainius Zubrus - 26 Patrik Elias - 23 David Clarkson
20 Ryan Carter - 11 Stephen Gionta - 18 Steve Bernier
22 Krys Barch - 14 Adam Henrique - 12 Matt Anderson

24 Bryce Salvador - 2 Marek Zidlicky
6 Andy Greene - 5 Adam Larsson
7 Henrik Tallinder - 28 Anton Volchenkov

30 Martin Brodeur
1 Johan Hedberg

No Stefan Matteau tonight, who has played five games this season. The 18-year-old could still be sent down to juniors to avoid using a year on his entry-level contract.

11:35: Some Islanders out on the ice, but several are talking with media in the hallway. Like Matt Moulson. More from him in a bit.

11:42: Here's Mark Streit on the offensive success the team has had recently: "It's tough to explain, but we have a lot of skill up front. We're moving the puck and the guys are moving in the offensive zone. That's the key. I sitl believe everything starts with good defense. We've been playing pretty well defensively and obviously the special teams has been working really well for us.

11:47: Matt Moulson, on the offensive success: I think we've got four forwards lines and six defensemen contributing...It's a lot easier to win games that way. If you look at the teams that are successful, they have four lines contributing and that's what we're getting right now. A lot of the guys are playing some good hockey."

12:35: Just finished availability with Jack Capuano, John Tavares and Josh Bailey. Quotes from them coming in the next few minutes. Today was the first time Bailey has skated with the team after suffering a knee injury before Training Camp.

12:43: Capuano on special teams: "It's a big part of the game. Goaltending, special teams - we talk about it all the time. This year our penalty kill has been a little bit more aggressive, which we like. Your goalie obviously is your best penalty killer, and they've made some big saves for us. Our power play struggled a little bit for a while, but it got us in the game in Winnipeg and got us back where we needed to be in Pittsburgh too."

12:45: Capuano on the keys tonight against New Jersey: "They're a stingy team. It's Devils hockey. You have to have patience. We played a lot of one-goal games last year as well. Puck management is the biggest thing, and making sure you're disciplined in all three zones."

12:48: Capuano on Frans Nielsen's potential: "Frans takes so much pride in playing against other teams' top lines. Fransy has a defense-first mentality like all our players should, and he does create a lot of opportunity on the offensive side of the puck. For two years now, he's been really good on the back end of our power play, and that line with Okposo and Bailey the second half of the year was our best line. We'll have some decisions to make when Josh gets back."

12:51: Tavares, on the Pittsburgh game: "Yeah, for probably 59 minutes we played pretty well except for a breakdown where we lost the shutout. That's the way we've got to play and understand that's the team game we need to play. We have to make it tough on the other team, especially the teams with good offense and top teams around the league. It's behind us now, and we have another challenge tonight."

12:55: Bailey, on bring back with his Islanders teammates: "It felt really good last night to be back on the bus and make the trip over and feel like a part of the team. When you're hurt, one of the toughest things is feeling like you're not a part of what's going on and missing out on stuff. To come on this trip and get a pre-game skate in definitely felt good."

12:58: Bailey, on his impressions of the Islanders performance on the ice: "They looked really good. Hopefully we can finish this road trip off the right way with a win here. Obviously, things went pretty well. We just want to keep building. As a team, guys certainly aren't satisfied. It's too early to get full of yourself, and it's a long way to go."
