Pre-Game
Kevin Poulin gets his first start of the season tonight after being called up from AHL Bridgeport yesterday. In 32 games this season with the Sound Tigers, the 2008 draft pick is 15-14-3 with a .904 save percentage

1st Period
4:38: Matt Moulson scores to put the Islanders up 1-0. Brad Boyes dropped a pass to the winger, who one-timed his 10th of the season past Cam Ward. John Tavares with the secondary assist. Shots: NYI 3 CAR 0

12:25: John Tavares breaks in the zone on a 2-on-1 with Brad Boyes and roofs one from the left circle over Ward to make it 2-0. That's his league-leading 13th of the season.

15:08: Kevin Poulin with a big side-to-side save to rob Chad Larose from in tight. Shots: NYI 5 CAR 9

15:32: Tavares draws a slashing minor on Joe Corvo. Islanders first power play of the night upcoming. Timeout Islanders. Jack Capuano wants the Tavares unit out there to kick this thing off.

17:32: Isles unable to score on the PP, but still lead 2-0.

17:58: A ridiculous tandem effort by Poulin and Co. keeps the puck out of the Islanders net. Looked like about five genuine scoring chances, but a handful of blocks and a couple sprawling saves by the netminder keeps the Islanders lead in tact.

19:49: Delay of game called on Jussi Jokinen. It was a faceoff violation. The Hurricanes had a 5-on-4 before the infraction, so now we'll presumably skate 4-on-4 until the intermission.

End 1st: It'll be 2-0 Islanders when we resume. Shots: NYI 5 CAR 13.

2nd Period
4:55: Tavares tries a really sneaky wraparound play, but lost the handle. Still almost found its way in through Ward. Shots: NYI 11 CAR 15

7:00: Kyle Okposo and Matt Martin had a 2-on-1 in transition. Okposo's shot was equaled by a nice windmill glove save by Ward.

9:40: Kevin Westgarth goes to the box for hooking. Isles are 0-for-2 on the power play

11:40: Isles unable to generate much pressure until the end of that man advantage. Still 2-0. Shots in the period are 12-1 Islanders. In total: NYI 17 CAR 15.

16:08: Carolina take its second shot of the period, but it's a harmless backhand that Poulin has no problem with. Still 2-0 New York. Shots: NYI 19 CAR 16

18:24: Matt Martin skates off for an interference minor. Canes are 0-for-2 on the PP.

18:28: Wicked bounce off the faceoff and Eric Staal swings and connects on the puck in mid air to beat Poulin. It's 2-1 Islanders. Before that, the Islanders had nine straight unanswered goals going back to the Montreal game.

19:13: And his brother Jordan follows up with a goal of his own to tie it at 2-2. Jordan's shot from high in the zone deflected off a stick, changed direction and went over Poulin's shoulder.

End 2nd: NYI 2 CAR 2. Shots: NYI 19 CAR 18

3rd Period
1:51: Carolina celebrates a goal off a scramble. About 10 guys in the crease. Faceoff to Poulin's right so no goal. Play was blown dead.

8:00: Still 2-2. Shots: NYI 21 CAR 22.

10:17: Wrister from the right circle by Bobby Sanguinetti has the Hurricanes on top 3-2. Canes took the line in transition, and Sanguinetti's first NHL goal went over Poulin's glove.

16:02: Islanders looking for the equalizer. Shots: NYI 23 CAR 25
