Live Updates - Islanders vs. Maple Leafs
7:00 p.m. - Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Uniondale, NYPre-Game
A couple of changes to tonight's lineup. Joe Finley is in for Radek Martinek, and will be paired with Mark Streit. David Ullstrom is scratched in favor of Eric Boulton, who will skate on Marty Reasoner's line with Matt Martin. Casey Cizikas, Colin McDonald and Michael Grabner form the third trio.
We have our first rendition of O Canada. Islanders are 2-1-1 against Canadian teams this season (all on the road). Warren Sabloff does the honors on that as well as the Star Spangled Banner. Traiditional, classic performance. Good stuff. Let's play.
3:34: Hello, Josh Bailey. The winger's first of the season puts the Isles up 1-0. Solid work by Kyle Okposo to undress Cody Franson on the left wing and slip that pass through to the slot for Bailey. Andrew MacDonald with his second helper of the year.
6:26: Bailey beat James Reimer and most of the building thought it was a goal, but the puck clanked off the post and Reimer covered it up.
8:31: Toronto ties it up at 1-1 on a wrist shot from Nazem Kadri. He stickhandled into the zone, and was able to work his way into the slot before going top shelf over Evgeni Nabokov.
13:03: Nabokov makes a pair of saves on Leo Komarov from close range. It's 1-1 still. Shots: NYI 3 TOR 7
15:56: Michael Grabner with a great steal and a breakaway through the neutral zone...and he gets tripped up from behind as he tries to take the shot. Penalty shot.
15:56: Grabner fires high over the bar on a wrist shot. Still 1-1.
End 1st: NYI 1 TOR 1. Shots: NYI 6 TOR 9
1:32: Matt Moulson bangs at one from in tight, and John Tavares might have gotten the last touch as the puck crosses the line. Initially waved off, as the puck was played with a high stick by Tavares.
1:32: After a phone call to Toronto, that's no goal. Still 1-1.
6:22: Lubomir Visnovsky rips home his first goal of the season off the cross bar to give the Isles a 2-1 advantage. Casey Cizikas was on the attack, had the puck knocked away from him, recovered and found Visnovsky at the point.
8:55: Toronto evens it up at 2-2 on a shot from distance by Kadri. His second of the game. He put his weight behind it and ripped it top shelf with a defender in front.
10:25: Islanders get caught on a line change and the Leafs make them pay. 3-2. van Riemsdyk takes a feed in the middle and follows up to get his own rebound to score on the second opportunity. David Steckel and Colton Orr get the helpers.
14:12: Kadri gets the puck on the right wing, maneuvers around a d-man, and wrists one in past Nabokov's blocker. It's 4-2 on Kadri's hat trick goal.
End 2nd: TOR 4 NYI 2. Shots: NYI 17 TOR 19
4:55: Visnovsky scores his second of the night over Reimer's shoulder to make it 4-3.
4:55: No, no he doesn't. After a review, that puck was off the post as well.
5:31: Ok, that one was most definitely in. Okposo pump fakes a shot and finds MacDonald across the ice. A-Mac's one-timer is his (get ready) first of the season. Off the iron and in. Genesis of that play was a crafty keep in at the line by Mark Streit. 4-3 Leafs.
6:31: There's a melee in front of the Toronto goal and the puck crosses the line, but the referee right on top of the play waves it off. Play was dead.
7:58: There has not been a penalty yet in this game. Curious to see if this continues through until the end. I'm sure Eric Hornick already knows the last time the Islanders played a game with no penalties and has it in the holster for tomorrow's Skinny.
10:08: Kyle Okposo scores. He had that one coming for a while. Got in the way of a pass in the defnsive zone, took the puck in down the right wing and fired one up high to tie it at 4-4. Islanders still have not finished a game with exactly three goals, and this is game #21.
End 3rd: NYI 4 TOR 4. Shots: NYI 26 TOR 27. Travis Hamonic's shot from the right point was deflected inches wide as time was running out. Islanders are guaranteed a point.
0:11: Grabner hits a post from the left circle. He's been very very close tonight.
