Live Updates - Islanders vs. Canadiens
7:00 p.m. - Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Uniondale, NYPre-Game
Kevin Poulin gets the start for the Islanders tonight, breaking a string of 10 straight starts for Evgeni Nabokov. It just so happens to be against his hometown team, the Montreal Canadiens. No doubt lots of Poulin fans watching from Quebec tonight.
2:19: Kevin Poulin makes the first save of the game, a glove stop on Alexei Emelin from the right point off a faceoff.
8:54: Mark Streit takes the game's first infraction. The crime is cross-checking. MTL to the power play.
9:36: Shot from Michael Ryder, who was playing the left point, gets through traffic and past Poulin to give the Canadiens a 1-0 lead. MTL PP worked the puck around, and Ryder got some momentum going before he took the low shot. Andrei Markov and Tomas Plekanec with the helpers.
12:06: John Tavares scores to tie this bad boy at 1-1. 91 took the line with Brad Boyes on his right. The defender played the pass, and Tavares took advantage of the extra space to cut toward the middle and fire the wrister through Carey Price. 18th of the year for JT, and Matt Moulson gets the helper, extending his assist streak to six games.
End 1st: NYI 1 MTL 1. Shots: NYI 10 MTL 10.
0:57: Too many men penalty called on Montreal as the puck bounced off a couple of players making a change. Isles going to their first PP of the game, with 2 PPGs in each meeting with MTL this season.
2:57: Isles fail to score, but they held the puck in the zone for about 1:50 of that man advantage and generated some chances.
6:58: That was pretty. Tic-tac-tic-tac-tic-tac-toe, with Lubomir Visnovsky punching in a marker to make it 2-1 Isles. The first line looked like the Harlem Globetrotters with sticks on that play. Just watch it later. Trust me.
9:26: Michael Grabner whistled for hooking, and if all goes well here, he'll serve a 2-minute sentence.
10:53: Subban ties it at 2-2. His one-time blast from the left point on the PP evades everything on its way in. Plekanec with the set-up.
17:45: Carkner to the sin bin for roughing. Habs are 2-for-2 on the job.
End 2nd: With Carkner's penalty expiring moments ago, we head to intermission tied at 2-2. Shots: NYI 20 MTL 19.
0:48: After an Isladners turnover, Brian Gionta gives the Habs a 3-2 lead. David Desharnais' pass to Gionta on the doorstep was poked over the pads of Poulin.
5:37: Referees not winning winning any popularity contests being held at the Coliseum, especially after that one got shown on the replay. Keith Aucoin gets called for embellishment after a really late hit from Subban after the whistle. Fourth PK of the game for the Isles.
8:06: Stoppage in play. Still 3-2 Montreal. Shots: NYI 22 MTL 25.
10:10: Habs put another one in on a redirection and it's 4-2. Brendan Gallagher tipped a shot from the right wing boards that changed direction one other time.
10:43: This one is going to go under review, but for now, it appears the game is 5-2. Shot that Poulin looked to have covered up slipped behind him and may have crossed the goal line. Thomas Hickey was in the neighborhood and almost cleared the puck off the line, but the play is ruled a goal. Gallagher gets it again, after his original shot banked off the post and out.
17:02: Gabriel Dumont goes to the box for a trip, and the Islanders at least have a chance again if they can strike quickly. NYI is 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
