The Islanders won the first matchup between the two teams on March 9 at Nassau Colsiseum. With the score tied 2-2 in the third period, John Tavares netted a pair of power play goals just 30 seconds apart, and Frans Nielsen's shorthanded tally later in the period finished the scoring at 5-2. Josh Bailey and Casey Cizikas also scored as the Islanders outshot Washington 45-24, including 19-5 in the third period when the Capitals got into penalty trouble.

Mike Ribeiro - Center

First-year Capital Mike Ribeiro leads the team in scoring with 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists). A crafty stickhandler who looks to pass first, the Montreal, QC native ranks fourth in the league with 24 helpers
. Ribeiro has shown the ability to score in bunches, posting 11 multi-point games this season, although he was held scoreless in the March 9 contest at the Islanders. The 33-year-old has recorded 60-plus points in four of the last five seasons, eclipsing 70 points twice and 80 points in 2007-08.

•Evgeni Nabokov posted 26 saves in a 3-0 shutout of Florida on Mar. 24 for the 55th shutout of his career.
