Smile Train’s Mission:

A bright, healthy smile is something pretty wondrous. It brings us pleasure and love. Yet every three minutes, in developing countries around the world, a child is born with a cleft that denies him or her this essential experience. There are more than one million children who struggle to eat and speak; too poverty-stricken to have their clefts repaired. Most cannot attend school or hold a job and suffer a life of shame and humiliation.

Fortunately, Smile Train provides more than 340 free cleft repair surgeries a day to poor children everywhere — giving them back the precious gift of a smile and with it, another chance at life. Won't you send us your smile, and help change a child's life forever.

For as little as $250 and in as little as 45 minutes Smile Train can provide a desperate child with free cleft surgery and a bright new smile. Donate to Smile Train Today.

1. Say cheese! - Take a photo of your favorite smile
2. Share it with the world! - Upload your photo to Instagram, Twitter or Tumblr using the Hashtag #SmileNFPM in the caption.
3. Help give a child a new smile! - Dr. Herman will donate $1per photo uploaded to Smile Train

Facial Protection:

You should wear a helmet when participating in a variety of sports and activities, including but not limited to hockey, baseball, football, riding your bike, and skiing. Wearing a helmet can help protect you from concussions and damage to your brain and face in the event of an impact.

Mouthguards can help protect your face and smile, minimizing the risk of broken teeth and injuries to the soft tissues of the mouth during an impact.

Protecting your face also means proper oral hygiene which helps prevent oral diseases and other illnesses. Be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and avoid sugary, starchy snacks or sugary drinks.

Be sure to visit your dentist often for regular checkups.

A healthy mouth and healthy teeth are essential for high-quality cleft care. Proper oral hygiene reduces the risk of infection from cleft surgery and paves the way for a healthy smile throughout life.

Remember to show off your beautiful, healthy teeth – Smile!
