The New York Islanders announced today that eight players have been recalled from loan from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Forwards Brock Nelson, John Persson, Ryan Strome and Johan Sundstrom, as well as defensemen Matt Donovan, Calvin de Haan, Aaron Ness and goaltender Anders Nilsson will join the Islanders for the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Nelson, 21, led the Sound Tigers in scoring with 52 points (25 goals, 27 assists) in 66 games as a rookie. This is the first NHL recall for the Islanders’ first round selection (30th overall) in the 2010 National Hockey League Draft.

Persson, 20, scored 29 points (17 goals, 12 assists) in 65 games this season with the Sound Tigers. The Islanders’ fifth-round pick (125th overall) in the 2011 Draft, Persson placed third among Sound Tigers goal scorers in his first professional campaign.

Strome, 19, led the Niagara Icedogs in scoring and placed sixth in the Ontario Hockey League with 94 points (34 goals, 60 assists) in 53 games. After the conclusion of his third OHL season, the Islanders’ first-round pick (5th overall) in the 2011 Draft joined the Sound Tigers on an Amateur Tryout, scoring seven points (two goals, five assists) in 10 games.

Sundstrom, 20, was the Sound Tigers third-leading scorer among forwards during his rookie season. The Gothenberg, Sweden native, selected in the second round (50th overall) in 2011, totaled 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) during his first season in North America.

Donovan, 22, tied for the AHL scoring lead amongst defensemen and placed third overall in team scoring with 48 points (14 goals, 34 assists) in 75 games. The Islanders’ fourth-round pick in the 2008 Draft made his NHL debut last season with the Islanders, appearing in three regular season games.

de Haan, 21, missed much of the 2012-13 season with a shoulder injury, recording two assists in three games with the Sound Tigers. Selected in the first round (12th overall) of the 2009 Draft, de Haan made his NHL debut last season with the Islanders.

Ness, 22, posted 27 points (three goals, 24 assists) in 76 games during his second season with the Sound Tigers. The Islanders’ second-round pick (40th overall) in 2008 appeared in his first nine NHL games with the Islanders last season.

Nilsson, 23, posted an 8-11-0 record with a 2.98 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage this season with the Sound Tigers. The second-year goaltender was taken in the third round (62nd overall) of the 2009 Draft.
