Islanders 2013 Draft Central - Morgan Klimchuk and Joshua Morrissey
In the days leading up to the 2013 Draft, newyorkislanders.com will break down the top prospects in North America and Europe
Playing his second full season in the WHL, Morgan Klimchuk improved his offensive numbers mightily over his rookie season. His 76 points in 72 games this year more than doubled his 36 points in 67 games last season. Klimchuk also took home a Gold Medal with Team Canada at the U-18 World Championship. With eight points (three goals, five assists) in seven games, Klimchuk was second on the team in scoring and a plus-8 for the tournament.

Under the radar a bit this year until the U18’s in Sochi. More of a north-south player, Morgan Klimchuk does his best work in the corners and behind the net. He is more of a 2-on-1 type of player rather than a skilled 1-on-1 player. He’s more of a conscious thinker than a guy who takes big risks.

With 47 points (15 goals, 32 assists) in 70 games, Joshua Morrissey led Prince Albert defensemen in scoring for the second consecutive season. Morrissey also led all defensemen on Canada’s Gold Medal Winning U-18 squad at the IIHF World Championship. In seven games, the Calgary native finished with seven points (three goals, four assists) and led the tournament with a plus-10 rating.

There are not many things this kid can’t do. Joshua Morrissey is not the biggest player, yet he is capable of making some big open ice hits. He can contribute offensively, is very aware in his own zone and certainly has the ability to move the puck in timely fashion and with precision.

"The feeling when my mom saw my name pop up was one of the best feelings in the world. You realize you’re very grateful and thankful. It was one of the best days of my life and I was very happy to be surrounded by family and friends when it happened."
