Islanders 2013 Draft Central - Ryan Pulock and Curtis Lazar
In the days leading up to the 2013 Draft, newyorkislanders.com will break down the top prospects in North America and Europe
Offensive-defenseman Ryan Pulock has led Brandon defensemen in scoring in each of his three WHL seasons. This past season, Pulock’s 45 points (14 goals, 31 assists) tied for the team lead. After scoring 60 points in 2011-12 with the Wheat Kings, Pulock was named to the Eastern Conference WHL First All-Star Team. With an October birthday, Pulock is one of the oldest eligible players for this year’s draft and one of the few that has already played three Canadian Major Junior seasons.

Ryan Pulock is a slick, skilled puck-moving defenseman. Pulock is a very good skater who’s efficient and very mobile. He’s not afraid to carry the puck up ice and has a slap shot that is very hard and heavy which will help an NHL power play.

Two years ago, during his first full season in the Western Hockey League, Curtis Lazar helped the Oil Kings capture the WHL Championship with 19 points in 20 playoff games. This past season, Lazar’s regular season offensive production improved as he led the team with 38 goals. The Vernon, B.C. native and the Oil Kings went on another post-season run in 2013, but fell in the WHL Championship Series.

Curtis Lazar is a power forward-type of player that does his best work in the battle areas. Work ethic, passion and drive are words that help describe this player. Curtis will add that intangible grit to a scoring line.
Matt Donovan, Islanders defenseman
Drafted: 2008, NY Islanders (4th round, 96th overall)

“I was at home watching the second day of the draft on TV. I wasn’t on any draft lists so I didn’t really know if I was going to get drafted, but I knew it was a possibility. I actually didn’t get to see it announced live on TV since it happened during a commercial. I saw my name pop up on the computer and then got the call.”

Each day of the week leading up to the draft, newyorkislanders.com will break down prospects from different leagues.
