St. Louis wins Lady Byng Trophy

The National Hockey League announced today that Tampa Bay Lightning forward Martin St. Louis is the recipient of the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability. The award was presented Friday at the 2013 NHL Awards Show.

Islanders forward Matt Moulson was one of three finalists for the award, along with St. Louis and Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Moulson, 29, led the Islanders in assists (29), ranked third in goals (15) and second in points (44), while recording only four penalty minutes. He scored the 100th goal of his Islanders career on Jan. 27 at Winnipeg, and played in 47 of the team’s 48 games, seeing his 284-game ironman streak come to an end on Apr. 6. His consecutive game streak stands as the third-longest in franchise history. Moulson tied for seventh in the NHL with eight power play goals, and contributed three points (two goals, one assist) in six postseason games.

In 322 career NHL games with the Islanders and the Los Angeles Kings, Moulson has scored 224 points (118 goals, 106 assists). Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the ninth round, 263rd overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Moulson signed with the Islanders as a free agent prior to the 2009-10 season.
