Islanders 2013 Draft Central - Mirco Mueller and Shea Theodore
In the days leading up to the 2013 Draft, newyorkislanders.com will break down the top prospects in North America and Europe
Swiss-born Mirco Mueller spent his first season in North America with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. Mueller finished the season second among Silvertips defensemen in scoring with 31 points (six goals, 25 assists) in 63 games. He also represented Switzerland at both the U-18 & U-20 World Junior Championships.

Mirco Mueller is a very agile and mobile defenseman. He’s not cut from the mold of a stay at home guy or a pure offensive weapon. Mirco seems to be somewhere in-between. His hockey sense and smarts are good, as well as his reads and decision making.

Playing in his third full WHL season, Shea Theodore finished third on his team with 50 points (19 goals, 31 assists) in 71 games. Theodore also earned a Gold Medal with Team Canada at the U-18 World Junior Championship in Sochi, Russia. He finished tied for second on the team with five assists in seven games.

Shea Theodore is a steady and stable defenseman. He makes a good first pass on the breakout, can advance the puck skating it and has a bomb once he gets into the offensive zone. Theodore shows the capabilities to play in any situation with more of an offensive flavor.
John Persson, Islanders forward

Drafted: 2011, NY Islanders (5th round, 125th overall)

“I had been told that I wasn’t getting drafted, probably just so that I didn’t get my hopes up too high. I had actually gotten out of the shower and saw a text from Matt Dumba (Red Deer teammate and 2012 first-round pick) offering congratulations. I wasn’t sure what he meant and I hadn’t heard anything. When I went to check on my computer, our WiFi was down…after about 30 minutes, I was finally able to check and see that the Isles had drafted me.”

Each day of the week leading up to the draft, newyorkislanders.com will break down prospects from different leagues.
