Islanders acquire Clutterbuck
Two-way forward and third-round pick acquired from Minnesota in exchange for Niederreiter

The New York Islanders have acquired forward Cal Clutterbuck from the Minnesota Wild, along with the 70th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, in exchange for forward Nino Niederreiter.

Clutterbuck, 25, has 110 points (62 goals, 48 assists) in 346 career National Hockey League games with Minnesota. A native of Welland, ON, Clutterbuck scored 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 42 games last season, while leading the team with 155 hits (tied for ninth in NHL). He also made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut, scoring two points (one goal, one assist) in five games during Minnesota’s Western Conference Quarterfinal series against Chicago.

A 5’11, 213-pound right wing, Clutterbuck led the NHL in hits for three consecutive seasons from 2008-09 to 2010-11, setting a then-NHL record with 356 hits during the 2008-09 campaign. Prior to his professional career, Clutterbuck played three seasons of junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. The Wild Selected Clutterbuck in the third round, 72nd overall, of the 2006 NHL Draft.

On the International stage, Clutterbuck won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2011 World Championships and a silver medal with Canada at the 2005 Under-18 World Junior Championships. He also won a gold medal with Team Canada-Ontario at the 2004 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Niederreiter, 20, scored three points (one goal, two assists) in 64 NHL games with the Islanders. The Chur, CHE, native scored 50 points (28 goals, 22 assists) in 74 games in 2012-13 with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. The Islanders selected Niederreiter in the first round, fifth overall, of the 2010 NHL Draft.
