Bailey Agrees to Terms on Five-year Deal

The New York Islanders announced today that Josh Bailey has agreed to terms on a five-year deal.

Bailey, 23, scored 19 points (11 goals, eight assists) in 38 games this past season with the Islanders. The Bowmanville, ON, native also made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut, recording three assists in six games during the Islanders’ Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

“Josh has become an important member of the young core of the players we have in our dressing room,” Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. “We’re excited to come to terms with him on a deal that will ensure he is a member of this team as we solidify ourselves as consistent playoff contenders.”

In five years with the Islanders, Bailey has totaled 58 goals and 81 assists (139 points) in 329 regular-season games. In 2010-11, he appeared in 11 American Hockey League games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, averaging well over a point per game with 17 points (six goals, 11 assists).

The Islanders selected Bailey in the first round, ninth overall, of the 2008 NHL Draft. Prior to his professional career, Bailey played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires and Owen Sound Attack. His final OHL season (2007-08), Bailey scored 96 points (29 goals and 67 assists) in 67 games.
