Pregame

Islanders and Blue Jackets have played once in the last 34 months, but will face off four times this season, as Columbus joins the Eastern Conference. Evgeni Nabokov gets his second straight start in net, while Sergei Bobrovsky will guard the other side.

1st Period
10:05: Nabokov with his first big save of the night, and his second total. A Columbus 2-on-1 ends with a shot from the right circle.by Ryan Johansen. First "Nabby" chant of the evening ensues. Shots: NYI 4 CBJ 2.

13:40: Frans Nielsen with an excellent chance from the slot, but it's kicked aside by Bobrovsky. Best chance of the period for the Islanders so far.

End 1st: NYI 0 CBJ 0. Shots: NYI 9 CBJ 4. No penalties or anything too crazy. Things should open up a bit over the next 40.

2nd Period
6:41: Josh Bailey almost put the Isles on the scoreboard with a one-timer from the slot but it hit a defenseman in front.

6:49: Hooking minor on Artem Anisimov, and it's time for the game's first power play.

8:17: Deflected Lubomir Visnovsky blast from the point, and it's 1-0 on the power play. Frans Nielsen and John Tavares set up the shot.

13:27: Tavares snuck a pass to Thomas Hickey down low on the left side, but Bobrovsky turned him away. Shots: NYI 17 CBJ 9.

14:01: Highlight-reel video game goal by Matt Moulson for his first of the season. Not many verbs in the English language to describe Tavares' backhand pass from the corner to the slot for a wide open Moulson, but the word "chemistry" comes to mind. 2-0 Islanders. Kyle Okposo with the secondary helper.

17:24: They've changed the scoring on the second goal in the building. Visnovsky gets the secondary assist, not Okposo. Goal and a helper tonight for Viz.

End 2nd: NYI 2 CBJ 0. Shots: NYI 19 CBJ 12.

3rd Period
1:18: Michael Grabner gets a breakaway, as he just outskates the D, but his wrist shot meets the pad of Bobrovsky sliding across.

6:03: Travis Hamonic takes the first Isles penalty of the night for hi-sticking.

7:45: Mark Letestu breaks Nabokov's shutout on a second (maybe third) chance in front. Casey Cizikas had already blocked a shot on the sequence, and Nabokov had made his 17th save just prior to the goal. Islanders still lead 2-1.

12:03: Columbus scores to tie it at 2-2. Nick Foligno hacks at a rebound opportunity following an RJ Umberger shot, and the puck bounces over the line.

Update: They're giving it to Ryan Johansen, who was the third man in on the play. They may take another look at this one after the game tonight.

17:18: Visnovsky takes a late penalty for holding, and the Blue Jackets will get a chance to take the lead on another power play.

19:19: Less than a second after Visnovsky's minor is up, Jack Johnson is penalized for holding. Isles are 1-for-1 on the job.

End 3rd: NYI 2 CBJ 2. Shots: NYI 26 CBJ 24. We'll have overtime for the second consecutive night, with 1:20 still remaining on Johnson's minor.

Overtime
0:36: Okposo let one rip from the left circle, but Bobrovsky slid across to stop it.

1:59: Back at even strength, Nabokov makes a couple of dandy saves, and the crowd erupts into another "Nabby" chant.

2:52: After icing the puck, the Blue Jackets use their timeout. If the first period was tight, overtime has been wide open.

3:32: Thomas Hickey blocks a shot, and Umberger gets the puck right back before shooting on goal. Big save by Nabokov. Cue chant.

End OT: NYI 2 CBJ 2. Shots: NYI 30 CBJ 29. Going to the shootout for the second night in a row. Recap coming after the game.
