2011-12 season series (0-0-2)
The Islanders and Blackhawks last met during the 2011-12 season. On Dec. 8, 2011, playing their second matchup in seven days, the Islanders stormed back from a two-goal deficit to force overtime, but Chicago won 3-2 on Patrick Sharp's game-winner at Nassau Coliseum. Travis Hamonic and Michael Grabner scored the goals for the Islanders.

Blackhawks player to watch
Patrick Kane - Right Wing

The Buffalo, NY native selected No. 1 overall in the 2008 NHL Draft has lived up to his billing, scoring 20-plus goals in each of his six NHL seasons (including the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign). Kane notched the Stanley Cup-winning goal in overtime for Chicago in 2010, and the series-clinching goal in double-overtime in the 2013 Western Conference Finals (capping off a hat trick).
Kane has one goal in all three of Chicago's games so far this season.
Islanders Storylines
• At 2-0-1, the Islanders are off to their best start through three games since the 2001-02 season (3-0-0).
• Michael Grabner registered his first career three assist game Oct. 8 vs. Phoenix.
• The line of Grabner, Frans Nielsen and Josh Bailey has combined for 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) through three games.
The Islanders are 45-41-22 all-time against Chicago. They will meet once more this season, on Jan. 2, 2014.

Quote of the Day:

"Huge test. We're playing the Stanley Cup champs and they're champs for a reason. They do a lot of things right. Offensively, they're the best team in the league to me as far as the skill level they have. They activate their D. You talk about a unit of five - it's like they have five forwards on the ice the way they play in the offensive zone with their cycling and getting involved off the rush. We have to make sure that we have good awareness in our own end and goaltending will be key tomorrow night.”

-Islanders head coach Jack Capuano,
