Pregame
Thomas Vanek will play his first game as an Islander. Brock Nelson will play as well, while Eric Boulton and Colin McDonald are scratched. Evgeni Nabokov is back in goal for the Islanders. Cam Talbot gets the start at the other end.

1st Period
2:47: First big save of the game is by Cam Talbot on Matt Martin from the left side. The play has been pretty up and down the ice so far.

8:18: Peter Regin had a couple of chances on a feed from Cal Clutterbuck at the goal mouth, but wasn't able to get it past Talbot. Shots: NYI 3 NYR 0.

8:48: Nabokov with back-to-back saves on prime scoring chances by Derek Stepan and Mats Zuccarello.

12:30: Brad Richards power play shot from the right point was stopped by Nabokov, but Chris Kreider was there for the putback to make it 1-0 Rangers.

14:04: Thomas Vanek just got absolutely stonewalled on a rebound chance off Matt Donovan's shot from the left side. Still 1-0 visitors.

End 1st: NYR 1 NYI 0. Shots: NYI 9 NYR 4.

2nd Period
3:40: After a weak start to the period, the Islanders tie it up at 1-1 on Cal Clutterbuck's first as an Islander. He picked up the puck in the neutral zone, skated in unobstructed and went top shelf from the right circle.

10:25: Matt Martin and Derek Dorsett drop the gloves at the Rangers blue line. Martin takes it in a unanimous decision.

10:40: Derek Stepan penalized for tripping. Islanders are 0-for-1 on the PP.

12:40: Isles unable to convert on the man advantage.

18:52: Lots of back-and-forth play here late in the second period, after not so much action in the middle of the frame. Nabokov with a big save on Taylor Pyatt in transition and the crowd gets into its second or third "Nabby" chant of the evening.

19:19: Isles take a 2-1 lead thanks to Peter Regin's rebound attempt from the left side. Talbot made the save, his second of the sequence, but the puck fluttered up and Dan Girardi misplayed it into his own net. Andrew MacDonald and Brock Nelson with the helpers.

End 2nd: NYI 2 NYR 1. Shots: NYI 16 NYR 19.

3rd Period
4:59: Ryan McDonagh scores on the power play to tie it at 2-2. One-timer attempt from Stepan that hit a defender on its way to the back of the net.

8:32: Teams were skating 4-on-4 before Mats Zuccarello got called for boarding on Michael Grabner to Talbot's right.

8:44: Quick 4-on-3 is over, and now the Isles will have a 5-on-4 advantage.

10:32: Power play is over. No goals, despite some good time in the O-zone. Shots: NYI 20 NYR 23.

13:46: Benoit Pouliot puts the Rangers ahead with his second marker of the season He took a centering feed from Carl Hagelin and snapped it through a screen to make it 3-2.

18:04: Icing call on the Rangers, but they won't use their timeout. Shots: NYI 24 NYR 24.
